Chicago prepares for 4th of July festivities across the city [Video]

CHICAGO — As Chicago held some pre-Fourth of July festivities at Navy Pier Wednesday, the Chicago Police and Fire Departments, as well as community non-profits, continued gearing up for the always busy holiday week.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Office of Community Safety went about proactive efforts to head off potential problems over Fourth of July on Wednesday, highlighted by a mass canvassing that centered around Ogden Park in the city’s Englewood neighborhood.

More than a dozen CVI organizations, short for Community Violence Intervention, converged on Ogden Park to show the community they are ready to preemptively solve problems before they happen.

“We have our CVI partners out here representing multiple organizations serving the Englewood community,” said Garien Gatewood, Deputy Mayor of Public Safety. “We want folks to know that people are here to help.”
