Kalamazoo firefighters douse suspicious Fourth of July blaze [Video]

KALAMAZOO, MI — Several residents here were displaced after a “suspicious” fire kept Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responders active in the early morning hours on the Fourth of July, officials said.

There were no injuries from the fire, public safety officials reported in a statement.

The department responded to reports of the fire shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, July 4, on the 700 block of West Lovell, officials said.

Firefighters arrived to find the blaze venting from a first-floor window, the report stated.

A fire attack team then “put out an overwhelming amount of the fire, leaving just hot spots for follow-on checks,” the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety statement read.

Red Cross representatives were contacted to assist the displaced residents. Officials did not indicate how many residents were displaced.
