Lane County, St. Vincent De Paul partner to bring cooling center to Eugene | News [Video]

EUGENE, Ore — Extreme heat throughout western Oregon has people looking for ways to stay cool, but for some, finding relief can be a challenge. 

The St. Vincent De Paul Society is helping people escape the heat with a temporary cooling center in Eugene. The doors at the Lane Events Center in Eugene are open for anyone who needs to get out of the sun. St. Vincent De Paul staff running the cooling center like  Emergency Response Coordinator Tim Black said they are prepared to stay open through the hot weekend.

“We’re glad we’re here. We got some nice air conditioning, we got drinks, some food, and just a place to hang out and be safe — like the rest of us — when it’s like this outside,” said Black.
