Leaders in Correctionville host town meeting to update residents on the flood recovery plan [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Cleanup continues in Correctionville, Iowa, after the Little Sioux River rose out of its banks last month. On Wednesday night, city leaders, and Woodbury County’s emergency management coordinator updated residents on the next steps in their recovery.

After the record-breaking flood, city leaders say the next step is for county and federal emergency management officials to arrive on Friday to assess the damage. When that’s done, the city will report the damage to the county to help it request a presidential disaster declaration.

County Emergency Management Coordinator, Mike Montino, said damage in Correctionville needs half-a-million dollars to hit the minimum threshold for the declaration. The city said 151 homes were flooded, and nine homes were condemned.

“We’ll conduct what’s called a joint preliminary damage assessment, so we walk through, and we verify that those damages are in fact true,” said Montino. “That’s going to be happening …
