This is a crisis: Over 600 kittens at Charleston Animal Society [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston Animal Society says they are currently in crisis mode with the shelter overflowing with over 600 kittens under their care.

Joe Elmore, CEO of the Charleston Animal Society, said that this is only the second or third time in his 12 years that they have declared such a state of emergency due to overcrowding at the shelter caused by kittens.

“The animal society, your animal society, is at the breaking point,” Elmore said.

The shelter can only hold upwards of 250 animals, but right now it has over 1,000 animals in its system, with 600 being kittens.

The overcrowding is so intense that the shelter had to rent a construction trailer to keep sick kittens in, but even more kittens are becoming sick because of the overcrowding.
