TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Fire Department and the Burn Unit at Hillcrest Medical Center shared safety tips with FOX23 ahead of the Fourth of July.

“The Fourth of July is normally our busiest day of the year,” said Kara Hall with Hillcrest Medical Center.

Hall works at the Alexander Burn Unit in Hillcrest Hospital. She says every year they see more and more patients around the Fourth of July. Burns on the hands, face and feet are the most common and it can take anywhere from days to weeks to heal.

“We are staffed 24/7 to make sure we have beds available for any major burn injuries,” said Hall. “We have seen patients in the past that have lost fingers from fireworks so we always recommend setting those fireworks down on the ground and not standing directly over those.”
