MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ — A wildfire, named the Wildcat Fire, sparked in the Tonto National Forest Saturday, leading to the closure of Bartlett Dam Road.

Crews battling Wildcat Fire in Tonto National Forest

The fire was reported at about 9:20 a.m. north of Dynamite Boulevard and 136th Street.

The Tonto National Forest took to Facebook to ask the public to avoid the area as fire crews fight the blaze. Visitors are currently being escorted out of Bartlett Lake.

Officials recommend that the public sign up for the Maricopa County Emergency Notification System in the event that evacuations are necessary.

The fire is currently estimated to be 500 acres. Two hotshot crews, three engines, an air attack, an air tanker, one helicopter and more resources are currently battling the fire.

Bartlett Dam Road is closed in both directions between Cave Creek Road and Horseshoe Dam Road because of the fire.
