Man sentenced to prison for Dupont Circle murder [Video]

The victim was found shot in the head on the steps of St. Matthew’s Cathedral. He was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries weeks later.

WASHINGTON — A Maryland man was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Friday for his involvement in a murder in Dupont Circle.

James Jackson, 30, of Silver Spring, was sentenced in the deadly shooting of Christian Monje, 29, of Fairfax County. He plead guilty in February to one count of second-degree murder while armed in connection to the shooting.

Investigators say on May 30, 2022, at 4:30 a.m., officers responded to Rhode Island Ave., NW, just outside of Dupont Circle, after hearing gunshots. Officers found Monje shot in the head on the steps of St. Matthew’s Cathedral. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died a few weeks later.
